Our project in Africa, an overview:
In Tanzania, the Kirua region is located between the city of Moshi and the Kilimanjaro National Park, a purely rural area with little infrastructure.
Unfortunately, the health care situation is far from ideal. No ambulances are available, and transportation to a hospital in Moshi takes a long time. This situation is sufficient for a simple doctor's visit, but not in case of an emergency. A small complication during childbirth can be devastating, and it is not uncommon for mother and child to die.
We accepted the mission and decided to improve this situation with the construction of our hospital building. Ten years ago, the association Kinderhilfe Moshi/Tansania e.V. based in Linnich near Aachen started to plan this hospital's construction. In the meantime, most of the structure has been completed. In August 2019 we celebrated the official opening. Two of the four floors are fully operational now, and future donation will accelerate further expansion.
With the opening, new operational tasks, maintenance work and ultimately, personnel matters arose. The association “Kinderhilfe Moshi” could not manage the high number of functions any longer and decided to found a new association named “Kirua Kinderhospital Hilfe e.V.” in our region. The goal of the newly created association is to take care of staff training and accommodation.
It is essential to know that there are no hotels, guest houses or private accommodations in the Kirua region for rent for the hospital staff. Therefore, we decided to build apartments for them, and we have completed the shell building of ten rooms already. Further donations in 2021 will enable first tenants to move in. The building has been planned to be enlarged by construction with a mirrored structure on demand.
The staff is waiting desperately for its completion as it is crucial and necessary for the shift workers to ensure a 24/7 stand-by service to respond and act quickly in case of emergency.
Our other important task is to take care of the procurement and transportation of aid supplies for the hospital. We have sent a container with hospital beds, an X-ray unit and other smaller medical equipment to the hospital so far. Currently, we are participating in delivering medical devices in corporation with another association supporting our project. Due to the current COVID-19 situation execution is becoming difficult.
Our association works exclusively with volunteers and can guarantee that 100% of the donations flow directly into the project.
The hospital is run by the Tanzanian association "Kirua Children Care Foundation" (KCCF) chaired by Rev Dr Amedeus Macha who grew up in the Kirua region. He knows the people and their mentality, has valuable contacts with local companies, is familiar with the Tanzanian authorities and their regulations. Thus, efficient regional planning and implementation are guaranteed.
Thanks for your interest and help.
